Library Machine: Search & Discovery UX That Tripled Catalog Engagement

Catalog engagement up 3.2x after search UX redesign for a US EdTech product

Client: Library Machine
Library Machine: Search & Discovery UX That Tripled Catalog Engagement

The Challenge

What Library Machine Was Facing

Library Machine's digital catalog had poor discoverability — users searching for resources hit dead ends because of rigid search logic, no faceted filtering, and a results page that prioritized metadata over relevance. Engagement was low and returning user rates were declining, signaling the product was failing on its core promise.

The Solution

What We Built

We redesigned the search and discovery flow with fuzzy search, a dynamic filter sidebar, and relevance-ranked results that surfaced availability and format prominently. A "you might also like" recommendation engine was introduced on resource pages. The borrowing checkout flow was reduced from five steps to two.
